Kyra Downton (2002)
In recognition of her leadership in the development and promotion of dressage in the western U.S. She gave demonstrations, brought European clinicians to the U.S., imported European warm bloods, instructed students, and was the sponsor and instigator of gatherings of people interested in improving dressage. Ms. Downton's Atherton Dressage was one of the forerunners of the California Dressage Society, which she helped to establish. She was the highest scoring U.S. dressage rider at the 1968 Olympic Games.
