Arts Contest FAQs

  1. I was wondering if a photo is cropped or lightened or darkened a little if that constitutes "Photoshopping." Most digital photos have that done to them. I ask this in regard to contest rules in the art division and the photo division.
  2. What does the "Printed with the following artwork or photo credit" mean on the entry form.
  3. How large a file can you receive at USDF.
  4. Regarding the Arts Contest rules, is this contest restricted to adults or can anyone enter?
  5. I have a question about some of the information requested on the Arts Contest entry form: For the subject name, what if I do not know the name of the horse and rider? I took the photograph I'm entering in the schooling ring at Dressage at Devon and don't know any particulars.
  6. Do you consider poetry that has been previously published in a literary journal, anthology, or collection of the writer's own work?
  7. For the art competition, do you consider woodblock prints?

If the cropping or lightening/darkening is to correct the color or center the image, it is still considered a photo and will fall under the photo division. If the cropping or lightening/darkening is for an affect or mood, it is then considered "Photoshoped" and should go under the artwork division.

What does the "Printed with the following artwork or photo credit" mean on the entry form.

In the USDF Connection, every photo and artwork has a photo credit. It is name of the photographer or the artist and can also contain their web site address. If your artwork is selected to be used in another project such as a brochure or on the web site, the image will always appear with this credit.

If the photo was taken in a public venue, it is not necessary to get the names of the people and/or horses. We like to have the subject's name if it is a "portrait" of someone.
